Customers Thomas and Caroline Fox
‘What I find attractive is the amount of natural light in the boat. It’s bright in the salon, thanks to the number of windows. We also have plenty of natural light in the master bedroom because of the four vertical side windows and the large window in the transom. All the panelling is rounded and the colour of the American oak is warm. Guests have their own cabin up front, and we sleep aft in privacy.’
Thomas Fox nods in agreement, ‘Steering is done on a level higher, so in the saloon you forget that you are on board. Standing on the dock, I enjoy the graceful lines of our Heimo.’ This name was given to the boat by its previous owners. My grandfather’s name was Heinrich, but everyone called him Heino,’ Thomas continued. ‘When I saw the boat the first time, I thought it was called Heino, after my grandfather. Because Heimo is so similar, we left the name as it is. We have no idea what it means.’ Caroline adds that the Retro 42 actually feels just like home: ‘We lack nothing on board. Thanks to the generator we always have electricity, under oor heating, a dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, wine cooler, combined oven and microwave, and a central vacuum cleaning system. The latter is even more luxurious than at home. The automatic blinds in the salon are really great: much cleaner and nicer than curtains. We can raise or lower the table in the saloon at the push of a button. In the salon as well as in both cabins we have televisions, sunk into the panelling and also automatically conjuring up again.’
Thomas and Caroline praise the friendliness of everyone on the dock. ‘Kindness can be a trick you have taught yourself, but you don’t keep that up for long,’ says Thomas. ‘At Boarnstream, we feel genuine cordiality. They are friendly here, and that’s a little different than acting friendly.’ Caroline: ‘The atmosphere here is simply good. We are extremely happy with a top product and the family feeling.
