Customers Franz Mittermayer and dog
When we started looking for a boat in the summer of 2023, we had a specific list of requirements. We wanted a steel ship that would be large enough for four people (with two bathrooms) and suitable for both the Mediterranean Sea and the canals. It had to be safe enough for the sea, yet compact enough for canal cruising. Additionally, safety was a priority, not only for us but also for our dog. A sturdy railing that our dog couldn’t slip through was essential. We also wanted the boat to be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including propulsion systems, navigation, air conditioning, a water maker, and more.
After searching online, we finally found Boarnstream, which, in our opinion, was the only company that could meet all our needs. We scheduled an appointment with Tjerk Bouma and, over the course of two meetings of three hours each, we configured our dream boat – the entire vessel. The whole process went smoothly, and thanks to the advice from the shipyard, we were able to make some additional improvements during construction. Boarnstream kept us continuously updated on the progress through photo documentation. The boat was delivered exactly on the agreed delivery date.
Boat Handover
During the handover, it became clear that the boat is quite complex in terms of technology. Although we were given assistance, it might have been helpful to spend more time on a detailed briefing on the technical operation. It would have been useful if we didn’t have to figure out on our own how systems such as air conditioning, heating, television, radio, generator, and the water maker worked. Tips on which systems to turn off via the fuse box when not in use (like the deck washing pump) would have also been welcome. Additionally, we would have liked more information on the proper preparations for winter storage, such as how to handle the water and waste tanks. Nevertheless, during the handover, we did receive the basic knowledge needed to set off safely.
Further Modifications
I discussed several modifications with Nanne Piter Lenes, such as the addition of extra cleats, and I am awaiting his proposals and quotes. These points might also be of interest to future customers.
Conclusion
In summary, we can say that the whole process went excellently. At Boarnstream, you are treated like a member of the family, and all the staff are exceptionally courteous. My wife and I will begin our journey to the Adriatic Sea in April 2025, once all adjustments to our boat, BRICA, have been completed. We will be traveling as Boarnstream ambassadors through Germany, France, Italy, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, and Croatia.
